First, Taiwan is a textbook island aviation market. Every international journey has to be flown, which makes the ticket a larger share of the trip budget than in countries with overland alternatives. Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) carries the great majority of long-haul and regional routes. Taipei Songshan (TSA) retains short-haul services to Tokyo Haneda, Seoul Gimpo and several mainland cities. Taichung (RMQ) and Kaohsiung (KHH) give travellers in central and southern Taiwan regional options without travelling north first, often saving three to four hours of ground transport and a night near the airport.

Second, the seasonal rhythm of fares is sharper than most travellers assume. Lunar New Year, Tomb Sweeping, Dragon Boat, Mid-Autumn and the school holidays form clear peaks. On the same Taipei–Tokyo route, the gap between a quiet week and Lunar New Year can exceed a factor of two. What usually drives the final figure is not how early you book but where the departure date falls. Moving departure two or three days often achieves more than weeks of watching a single date.

Third, headline price and total price are different things. A low-cost carrier fare typically excludes checked baggage, seat selection, meals and any flexibility to change. Add twenty kilograms of luggage and seat selection in both directions and the real outlay can approach a full-service fare that already includes baggage plus meaningful delay and connection protection. Compare on one basis only: the total including baggage, seats and the realistic cost of changing.
